If you're looking for something festive and seasonal to do this coming weekend in the District, there's a lot of sparkle at the National Zoo!
ZooLights at the National Zoo
The National Zoo's seasonal presentation of more than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland. Lit animal silhouettes, musical light displays, and a new garden scene light sculpture make for truly magical sights!
Thaw your paws in The National Zoo's exhibit buildings and see their nocturnal critters! The Small Mammal House, Great Ape House, Reptile Discovery Center, Think Tank, and Kids' Farm will be open every night and will be offering special demonstrations and talks.
Back by popular demand this year, ZooLights guests will enjoy free costumed character photo opportunities with Panda Claws, the official ZooLights ambassador. Panda Claws will also perform nightly in the Snow Globe.
ZooLights at The National Zoo, Rock Creek Park. Washington, DC.
December 14th-23rd and 26th-30th, also open January 1st 5-9 PM.
FREE Admission!
There are also some paid attractions at the National Zoo that will delight young and old:
We don't have any snow so far this holiday week, but you can still enjoy your favorite snow games. This year Lion/Tiger Hill will be transformed into a winter wonderland complete with two 150 foot long "snow tubing" tracks. Take the plunge!
Enjoy a ride on the Conservation Carousel, composed of 58 animal figurines and one of the few carousels in the world to use solar power energy. It's a new spin on conservation!
And much more, so see you at the zoo!

Yes! And it's a free event, too, so even better for families who want to enjoy activities together without breaking the bank. Maybe we'll even get a little snow! Bet you won't be seeing any of the white stuff in San Jose/Saratoga/Cupertino, right? ; )
Hello Susan, sounds like a great place to take family and friends and enjoy the National Zoo, something children would not forget.... making memories, and it's FREE.
The Tigers are so cute...
Thanks for sharing your adventure at the National Zoo in Washington, DC
I agree, Bob. And who doesn't love an adorable tiger? ; )
