DC Councilmember Cheh Introduces Condo Amendment Act of 2011
D.C. Councilmember Mary M. Cheh and Councilmember Michael A. Brown have introduced a new Condominium Amendment Act of 2011, reportedly to "...bring the D.C. Condominium Act in line with the other local jurisdictions.”
According to Cheh, the bill would increase transparency in condominium association board operations, permit condominium associations to deliver notice to members and conduct votes electronically, provide unit owners greater flexibility to control their own governance structure, require that all meetings of condo boards be open to members in good standing, and require the associations to maintain financial records and provide owners a right of copying and inspection of the association's books and records.
The current condominium law, which was adopted in 1976, facilitates the functioning of the more than 46,000 condominium unit owners throughout the District.

Susan: Transparency in government is a good thing, so I imagine that transparency in the "governing" of condo associations is a good thing, too. Thanks for sharing!
Agree, Andrew! The more positive involvement and understanding condo owners have in and of their associations and management, the healthier associations are likely to be.
Thanks for your comment!
